"What's your religious heritage, and how did you end up here?"

Unitarian Universalism is sometimes referred to as a "big tent theology," meaning that people attend a UU church for many different reasons, and from many different religious or non-religious backgrounds. During the discussion from the UU Heritgae program on Sunday the 1st, several people voiced interest in hearing how current Lake Fellowship attendees came to UU-ism, and perhaps to Lake Fellowship in particular.

An Introduction to the History and Philosophy of Yoga

Have you ever wondered if there is more to yoga than just postures? This program, led by Lake Fellowship member and Yoga Teacher Matthew Tift, provides a brief overview to the history and philosophy of yoga. From premodern India to modern health and wellness, we'll survey yoga's historical purposes as well as the science-based benefits of modern yoga. You will get an opportunity to practice some basic yogic breathing techniques and experience their effects. This program is for anyone, from the experienced yogi to someone who has never set foot in a yoga class.

Lake Fellowship member Marnie Karger will lead a program exploring October's theme of The Gift of Heritage. She'll run through some historical highlights or Unitarian Universalism, and then open it up for a discussion about how meaningful this UU heritage is to you.

Native Plants on Native Land

Fellowship members Sharon Dana, Roberta Rott, Vicki Larson, and Karen Wendt will present on the Landscape committee's work of bringing native plants back to the Fellowship land.   Sharon Dana will begin the program by guiding us on a historical journey of the woods and landscape and the Dakota’s relationship with the land,  Karen, Vicki, and Roberta will follow up with a description of  landscape work that has been done and plans for work to be done in our continued commitment to be good stewards of this land.

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) has been reviewing and updating Article II of our by-laws, where our principles and purposes are held. A vote was taken at the UUA General Assembly this summer to move forward with the recommendations of the Article II Commission, which was tasked with this undertaking.

Water Ceremony & Welcome 2023

As has been our tradition for more than a decade, we will start our new season of programs with a Water Ceremony. The Water Ceremony is a great way to reconvene after summer break. For those who may not be familiar with this annual tradition, members and friends bring to the service a small amount of water that represents something of significance for them.  One by one the water is poured into a larger bowl. This is more than a “what I did this summer” report, and represents a re-gathering of our community.
