Hi all, it’s time to resume Lake Fellowship’s Neighborhood Food Project (NFP), so load up your “green or orange” food bags (if you don’t have one, just put the food in a paper bag)!  You all know how this works: you get some groceries/personal items and bring them to LF (or have a friend deliver them) on the first Sunday of the month (Sept- May) and the Muehlbergs will deliver the items to WeCAN’s food shelf and mobile market on Monday.  We have a few “Orange Bags” at the A-frame (if you need one), so feel free to bring your donations and fill up a bag.  WeCAN also takes checks if you want to make a cash donation.

I would like to set a goal for LF (2025-26) to contribute 1,000 lbs of food/personal items, which would be over 100 lbs more than last year. We are a small community, but I think this is an attainable goal with your help!

WeCAN reports their food shelves, currently, are very low, so any contribution helps.  WeCAN asks that whenever possible, contribute items from the list below, because those items identified are currently in the greatest demand.

The collection schedule for the next 8 months is as follows:

Oct. 5th
Nov. 2nd
Dec. 7th
Jan. 4th, 2026
Feb. 1st
March 1st
April 5th
May 3rd

I want to highlight a few reasons why recipients of food from WeCAN are in need of food and personal items.

  1. Housing- the cost to rent has increased since the pandemic and therefore families have to pay a disproportional amount of their budget on housing.
  2. Health care- Many people are “one injury away” from owing a lot  of money for medical bills and medications.
  3. Employment & transportation- Operating a car to maintain a job is expensive, and if you need to repair or replace it, you may have to choose between buying food or repairing your car.
  4. Food and personal items are often the first place families reduce in their budget, therefore, needing help from WeCAN.

Below is a list of current food items and personal care needs as recognized by WeCAN, please donate items mainly from this list.

Thank you!
