Description

Lake Fellowship warmly welcomes Minnesota State Senator John Marty for this program. Senator Marty's program will tie well with the 2025 Unitarian Universalist General Assembly Action of Immediate Witness, which is "Faithful Defiance of Authoritarianism, a Call to Action: Reaffirming our Covenant for Democracy and Freedom."

About our speaker: John Marty has been a member of the Minnesota Senate since 1987, and currently represents District 40, which includes Roseville, Arden Hills, Shoreview, New Brighton, and Mounds View. He serves as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee and is an advocate for environmental issues, health-care reform, LGBTQ+ equality, government ethics and campaign-finance reform.

The son of Dr. Martin Marty, a renowned author, minister and theologian, and his wife Elsa, John grew up in a family engaged in the civil rights and anti-poverty movements. His parents taught him deeply-rooted values, such as respecting the dignity of every human being, the value of working hard and playing fair, and the importance of taking responsibility to bring change when confronting injustice.
