Description

Lake Fellowship warmly welcomes back Dr. Karen Wills.

MUUSJA, the Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance, connects our 27 UU congregations, with state and national partners, as a trusted guide for statewide social justice and environmental action. This program highlights Minnesota UU's work in 2024 to preserve the razor-thin majority in our state legislature that is making Minnesota a vision of refuge for talented people, thriving in multiracial, multicultural, inclusive community, within the upper Midwest.

After serving 4 years as Executive Director of the Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance, MUUSJA [pronounced "moose-jaw"], Karen currently volunteers as MUUSJA's Technology Specialist and as 2024 Democracy Strategist, coordinating "UU the Vote" for Minnesota. Karen is a lifelong UU and community organizer, who has managed campaigns, led phone-banks, published Op-Eds, testified at legislative hearings, and led rallies in the Capitol rotunda. One of her fondest memories is the quietest: brewing coffee and cooking porridge at sunrise, on a camp stove in the north woods, for 50 water protectors walking from Itasca to Saint Paul, as we tried to stop construction of the Line 3 tar sands pipeline. MUUSJA organized UU congregations to feed and house the walkers on their journey.
