The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act are the bills that would give corporations and the US government broad powers to censor the Internet. SOPA would block access to sites accused of violating U.S. copyright laws, and the measure has been called Draconian by opponents who say it would fundamentally change the free-flow of information across the Internet. Since Oct. 1, most major television news outlets -- MSNBC, Fox News, ABC, CBS, and NBC -- have ignored these bills during their evening broadcasts.
