The Soup Sunday logo is a pair of hands holding a steaming bowl. The steam forms a heart shape, and the words Soup Sunday are below the hands.

Hi all, it’s time to continue our commitment to Lake Fellowship’s Neighborhood Food Project (NFP)!  You all know how this works, you get some (non perishable) groceries/personal items and bring them to LF (or have a friend deliver them) on the first Sunday of the month (Sept- May) and Larry Muehlberg (thank you Larry and Peggy) will deliver the items to WeCAN’s food shelf and mobile market on Monday.  We have a few “Green/Orange Bags” at the A-frame, so feel free to bring your donations and fill up a bag.  WeCAN also takes cash or checks (WeCan Food Shelf).  I have a “pro tip,” if you shop Costco or Aldi’s, you can buy in bulk at a lower price and have enough food for two or three months worth of donations!

Karen and I will not see you on Feb 2nd, as we will be in Charolette, NC and Leesburg, Virginia for Karen’s work.

Below is a list of current food items and personal care needs as recognized by WeCAN, please donate items mainly from this list, if possible.

A list of items that are the current needs for Winter 2025 for WeCAN

Here is a list of the next three NFP food donations dates at LF:

  • March 2nd
  • April 6th
  • May 4th

I want to highlight a few reasons why recipients of food from WeCAN are in need of food and personal items.

  1. Housing- the cost to rent has increased since the pandemic and therefore families have to pay a disproportional amount of their budget on housing.
  2. Health care- Many people are “one injury away” from owing a lot  of money for medical bills and medications and sacrifice food so they can purchase medications.
  3. Employment & transportation- Operating a car to maintain a job is expensive, however, if you need to repair or replace it, that can throw off your budget.
  4. Food and personal items are often the first place families reduce in their budget, therefore, needing help from WeCAN.

And, just when you think it couldn’t get any better, we also celebrate “soup Sunday” Feb 2nd too!
Helene and John are kindly making and serving soup for all to enjoy after the Sunday’s program.  You get to enjoy some delicious soup and share in fellowship with other LF members and friends, yahoo!! We ask that you make a donation, if possible, (cash or check) and we will donate the collection to Sojourner Project (a domestic violence non for profit and shelter serving the west metro area since 1979).

I want to thank Larry, Peggy, Helene and John for their part in helping LF assist in reducing food insecurity in our community.

Thank you all,
Tim Wendt
