Dear LFUU Members and Friends,

My heart is happy! I heard that a lot of people – possibly the most since before the pandemic – attended last week’s program, Answering the Call to Action, and that almost everyone signed up to help with at least one action that the current times are calling us to do. That gives me hope! There is a saying, Action is the antidote to fear. When WE take action, WE are the antidote to our fear, which is what we posted with the above photo of our members who attended the ERA rally last month, with their permission, on our public Facebook page.

Action is the antidote to fear. When WE take action, WE are the antidote to our fear.

Another antidote to fear is being with loved ones! I missed last week’s program, because my husband and I traveled with our daughter and her family to attend her mother-in-law’s 80th birthday party in Cyprus! (She is British and retired there.) While there, I limited my news consumption to first thing in the morning and just enough to be informed. And this week we started taking care of our 6-month-old granddaughter three days a week; on those days I’m really limiting my news intake so I can focus on her.

I believe another antidote is knowledge and understanding of what we’re afraid of. One of the things I’m afraid of is the eroding of the separation of Church and State. So, I’m really looking forward to this week’s program on why agnostics should read the Bible. When my daughters were young, we used the curriculum Stories about God in our religious education program for a year because, as this week’s speaker says, we believed it was important that our children know and understand the stories and beliefs that have shaped our history and culture.

I’m also looking forward to our monthly antidotes to fear on Sunday: bringing food for our monthly food drive for WeCAN and donating money to eat soup to raise funds for a charity chosen by the soup makers. Thanks to Marilyn and Amy for making the soup this week!

What are you afraid of? What are your antidotes to that fear? Which actions might you take?

Yours in Fellowship,

Laurie
