Dear LFUU Members and Friends,

Happy first day of spring! On Saturday, our LFUU Sunshine Committee delivered a bit of spring to me! Marilyn brought me a salmon-colored begonia, which happens to be my favorite flowering plant. Thank you, Marilyn! Covid symptoms really hang on – it’s been over two weeks -- but I am feeling a bit better each day and easing into normal activities.

Marilyn and Curtis, who is also on Sunshine Committee, do a marvelous job making sure we feel cared for when grieving, ill, injured, or healing. I’m guessing one of them visited Roberta recently: her sister died suddenly last week. Roberta wanted me to let everyone know that her sister, who was 65 years old, was an organ donor and her organs went to seven different people. By the way, Curtis had emergency gall bladder surgery a few weeks ago. He recovered quickly and was at our Sunday program just two days later where we all let him know we care. (Heads up Sunshine Committee: Martina is having bunion surgery next week.) Over the years, not just Sunshine Committee, but the entire LFUU community has supported me during difficult times. I consider it part of my extended family.

Sounds strange, but it was lucky I was laid up with Covid! As many of you know, we have a fundraiser coming up: an on-line auction of art and artifacts from the estate of founding members Jo and Lee Hermann. The items were donated to us by their children, who grew up attending LFUU and are part of our extended family. (Todd took many of us boating at our annual picnic that they hosted.) Anyway, Roberta had offered to help Sharon research and enter the items and write copy for the auction website, but with her sister’s death she wasn’t able to. I was though! I’ve been glad for something to do while recovering on the couch. I’ve also been working on the marketing and early next week we’re sending an email with the link to the auction, which runs from April 9th-16th. Please share it with your extended family, friends, and acquaintances to help make it a success!

Who do you consider part of your extended family? Why?

In Fellowship,

Laurie
