Begin Again

Dear LFUU Members, Friends, and People Checking Us Out,

Our 2026-27 program year begins on Sunday! Although I saw most of you over the summer at our Annual Picnic, Canoe Trip, Book Club, and auction events, I’m looking forward to gathering with everyone to begin again at our beloved A-Frame in the woods. I do like the idea that coming back to the A-Frame is beginning again. It’s an opportunity to renew our commitment to this community, our UU principles and values, and to ourselves and the reasons we chose LFUU. (FYI: Beginnings is our theme for this month.)

At our recent Strategic Planning Retreat, the LFUU Board of Trustees came up with these reasons why we each chose LFUU: We’re small, lay-led, informal, welcoming, and we evolve to meet members’ needs. We enjoy being together after our programs and at events and activities. Our programs don’t feel like church services, instead they stimulate our intellect and challenge our beliefs, and encourage us to interact as we explore new ideas and different perspectives.

The Board agreed that we’re on a good trajectory and we just need to keep it going to realize our dream for LFUU: 50 engaged members with more young people and families with kids gathering in well-cared-for facilities. We shared ideas we can do this year to facilitate that: connect visiting families with each other, offer a service project or cornhole after programs, provide more social events at the A-frame, proactively maintain our facilities, offer an option to receive text messages for notices, and more.

Which led the Board to discuss committee/volunteer needs: if you have an interest or skill you’d like to share with LFUU, please let a Board member know. Besides me, this year’s Board members are Sam Devine, Co-Chair; Dan Larson, Treasurer; Helene Mann, Secretary; Tom Naylor, At Large.
