Are Some Traditions Worth Resurrecting?

Topic

Do you find traditions reassuring in an always changing world? Like our Annual Thanksgiving Potluck Feast last Sunday? My family and I joined LFUU 35 years ago and I think I’ve attended every feast since. It’s always wonderful to share good food and conversation with old and new friends!

Do you think some traditions are worth resurrecting? Like our Choir last week? I think we sounded pretty good! We started the choir for LFUU’s 50th anniversary in 2010 and we sang almost every Sunday until we stopped in-person programs during the pandemic and switched to Zoom. Since resuming in-person, we’ve been hybrid and haven’t figured out how to Zoom live music, so we weren’t doing any. Recently we decided it’s okay to, since very few if any people Zoom in. If you enjoy singing and want to join us, let Maia know.

This is inspiring me to resurrect another cherished LFUU tradition: Egggnog on the Sunday before our winter holiday break. That goes way back, probably to the beginning of LFUU since it was two of our founding members, Jo and Lee Hermann, now deceased, who always brought and served eggnog with a sprinkle of nutmeg and a shot of booze for those who wanted it spiked. I will do the same on December 22! (Maybe I’ll even use their punch bowl!) If you want to, bring a holiday treat for us to enjoy with it.

Do you look forward to traditions? Like this week’s first Sunday of the month activities: Marnie’s monthly talk on our theme, Neighborhood Food Project Bag Sunday with food/personal care collection for WeCAN, and Soup Sunday funds collection for a food-related charity. Details on these are below.

Do you agree that some traditions are just a darn good idea? Like this idea from Curtis: the Board now sends the Notice of and Agenda for the upcoming Board Meeting to members. If you are a member, please watch your emails for these for our meeting on December 12. We do encourage your input and requests for agenda items.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!
