Description

Unitarian Universalism promotes itself as a religious tradition where everyone is welcome and diversity of belief is assumed.  This has created a safe home for many on their spiritual paths.  But it can also create some uncertainty when we try to come together in community.  How welcome are my beliefs?  How open can I be about my Christian faith? my atheism? my Buddhism?  And if I decide to label myself, then will I forever be limited to that label?  The rabbis tell us that Abraham had a huge tent pitched with all the sides rolled up, so that whenever travelers approached, they always felt like they were being welcomed in the front, with bountiful hospitality freely offered, no matter who they were.  Isn't that what we strive to do today in Unitarian Universalism?  Come join us for reflection, meditation, and discussion about what it means to be part of a religion with "Big Tent" theology.Leslie Mills is a Candidate for the Unitarian Universalist ministry.  She is in her final year at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and will be graduating with her Master of Divinity with a concentration in Peace and Justice Studies.  During her time in graduate school, she has completed internships with Groveland UU Fellowship in St. Paul and the UU Church of Minnetonka in Wayzata, and she served 400 hours as a hospital chaplain at Abbott Northwestern.  This year she is president of the United UU student group, and in January she will begin her term serving on the national planning core for the Continental Gathering of UU Seminarians.  Next fall, Leslie will begin a full-time internship in final preparation for her Fellowshipping interview in 2015.
